Grouping For Looks is a page-by-page retelling of the Looking For Group saga through the lens of a mirror universe where Cale is a goateed tyrant and Richard is a holy soul trying to set him on a good path.
EXT. THE RIDD OCEAN – THE FATHER’S BONES – DAY
Richard, still tied to a mast, conjures yellow balls of energy. They hover over his open palm for a moment, then zip around him, turning only at 90 degree angles.
BENNY
Did you just fire Omega Beams?
RICHARD
Yes. I learned it from the Snyder Cult.
BENNY
I liked their older works, but their last few rituals felt off to me.
RICHARD
I admire how they take existing materials and make it their own.
BENNY
Sure, in concept. But if their version changes the source material to an unrecognizable degree, why not making something new?
RICHARD
A new ritual? In this market? What is the last successful original ritual that you can name.
Krunch wanders away from the arcanophile conversation.
BENNY
I can name quite a few recent original rituals that I enjoyed.
RICHARD
That’s nice, but are you deliberately not answering my question -which was about marketing success, not quality- because you know there are none?
Krunch returns with a lit torch.
BENNY
There’s more to the success of a ritual than its commercial return.
Krunch sets Richard’s mast on fire.
RICHARD
Not as long as rituals still cost so much money to- eh?
Krunch hoists Richard’s flaming mast and launches it at the Legion ship. It explodes in a flaming burst.
BENNY
That’s one way to shut him up.
Richard pops out of the water.
RICHARD
-produce. And it’s money well spent. There’s a reason the income of a million indy rituals still don’t compare to one well funded-
Krunch taps Captain Tah-Vraay on the knee.
KRUNCH
Do you have another mast I could set on fire?
