Friday Larchive – Postcards From The Past

Fridays, we open the Larchives, Lar’s extensive archive of art work oddities, and share a few pieces. Sometimes there will be a theme, or a reason behind the choices. Other times there will be none.

With another Larchive Friday falling on the last day of the month, it would be awkward to plug a theme for the DeSouza MS Society of Canada fundraiser when that theme ends today. Luckily, Lar supplied me with an alternative.

Lar came across a cache of old convention promotional postcards for LFG and LICD. He asked me if I wanted them as Blind Ferret’s unofficial archivist. Not only did I want them for posterity, they make great blog content!

While he supplied me with plenty of LICD postcards from 2004 and 2005, he only had one, double sided LFG postcard.

There’s no date on it, but I feel safe assuming this is from 2007, the first con season after LFG’s 2006 launch.

It’s interesting to see a couple of trademark LFG jokes in basically prototypical form. We know Richard’s long history of being ambushed by orphanages, but I was surprised to see he was once attacked by a hospital as well! Fortunately, he handled that thread. No other innocent undead warlocks have to fear that hospital’s wrath.

Similarly, we’ve seen a lot of takes on the Richard eats babies joke, but rarely are they so direct as Richard flat out asking (politely) to eat a lady’s baby.
