With towns so close together, the militias defending them must be ready at a moment’s notice. The MinuteHands are always prepared to drop what they’re doing, grab small arms, and defend their neighbors. One MinuteHand does a clockwise patrol around the wall, every hour.
There were other militias, but they had problems. The SecondHands equipped themselves with used gear, and they were so quick to act, that they really ticked off the MinuteHands. They eventually drove the HourHands around the bend.
