Its Her Body, His soul. What i think is happening is she is putting the last of herself into the doll sealing it so its not lost, thats why shes been seen with the doll all this time in the purse ,while the gem with Richard in it invades the body. Look at what is happening she is getting corrupted by the power of the gem, the gem Made from Richards blood and sacrifice. The gem is effectively Richard, and he is “resurrecting” using his sisters body. This corruption could have happened to anyone not just her, the father probably wanted it to be his body, and he probably thought on the word of the Archmage that he would also keep his mind, but it is the corrupted mind in the gem that gains control. It simply just needed a vessel.
